As Iā€™ve mentioned before, I love to write about things that I have learned. A lot of my blog post ideas stem from the fact that searched for similar information and couldnā€™t find it. Something that I started learning about a couple years ago is womenā€™s wellness. Simple things like ā€œperiod literacyā€ - knowing about your cycle, how it works, when you can actually get pregnant, what kind of discharge means what, etc just isnā€™t that well known, let alone taught. I donā€™t know about you, but neither my 5th grade puberty video, nor my 8th grade ā€œthe talkā€ assembly addressed these topics. Heck, my 9th grade biology class, where I took anatomy by correspondence, didnā€™t even go over it. Why is that? When you know what is going on in your body or what isnā€™t going on that should be, not only does it empower you, but it also helps you make better decisions for yourself. Oh and FEEL BETTER.

It probably truly began when I started learning more about clean and nontoxic beauty, but really got deep when I started learning more about birth control and what it does to our bodies. To learn more about my story and quitting birth control, you can click here. Since then I have taken my basal body temperature (BBM) for 2 years, seed cycled, and more. This year I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis after having to go through a colonoscopy, and since then have had to navigate an autoimmune diseaseā€¦ which is apparently pretty common for women my age (late 20s / early 30s). BUT NO ONE REALLY TALKS ABOUT IT. Iā€™ve received so many messages from you that said you found out you had a certain disease, finally figured out what was wrong, or sought help - not because of me, but because my content prompted you to get checked out. I get it. Going to the doctor is sometimes scary. I put it off for way too long. I donā€™t always love sharing so many personal things, but the reason I do it, is because I figure if it helps one person, that is enough for me. I love helping people and created my blog to assist others.

I also want to be a place of encouragement. In Dallas I experienced a doctor that completely dismissed my comments and thoughts about my health. I actually noticed that I had a short cycle (24 days versus 28 - 32 days), which meant I was imbalanced in some kind of way. I remember showing her my tracking and she glanced and was like yeah youā€™re fine and hurriedly left the room. I know that some people people read google and think that makes them know better than a board certified physician, but I never pretended to feel that way / be that way. I just wanted to present my findings and have a discussion. This was also the same doctor that told me getting off birth control just wasnā€™t affective. You know what isnā€™t affective? Not knowing your body and how it works.

Donā€™t let one doctor make you abandon ship. Keep trying! I have found wonderful doctors here in LA! My approach is definitely two-pronged. Iā€™m super thankful for Western medicine and medications, but I also believe in Eastern medicine. I mean if you can eat something or have a procedure like acupuncture that could possible help you, why wouldnā€™t you do it?! I get it if it is a money thing, but whatā€™s the harm try if you can afford it? Sure Iā€™m for knowing your body and ā€œwoo wooā€ type things, but know I also am super thankful for modern medicine. If it wasnā€™t for Western medicine, my inflammation levels wouldnā€™t have dropped to 29g this week (November) from 1068.6g back in January. Thatā€™s so crazy!!

All that to say, Iā€™m stoked to bring you a new series. I wrapped up my year-long Women in the Workplace series a couple months back and was trying to think of a new series to start. Starting next Wednesday, Iā€™ll be doing a Womenā€™s Wellness series!! Some topics will be more surface level and others might get deep. Either way I hope to educate and inform. Please send and requests or topics youā€™d like me to cover. Just as a reference, I am not a doctor. Always check with your physician before beginning supplements and such. Iā€™m excited to dive in next week. Stay tuned!! XOXO
