HAPPY 2021!! I’m not putting too much pressure on this year or anything, but I do feel like I am more excited for this year than I typically am. We are in Colorado until Sunday and if these past couple days are any indicator of how this year will go, I think it will be a good one ;)

Every year my first post of the entire 365 span highlights Pantone’s chosen color. They release a color that they deem the following year’s hue and often do brand deals and trends off of that. If you’re unfamiliar with Pantone, they are a color service that not only has a system for dying, printing, etc, but also predict color trends and so on. Still confused? Think of your favorite sports team? They have a brand guide and their team colors are a specific Pantone swatch so other companies / licensed products can product items that match their brand guidelines. Think of it as a color language with some trend forecasting!

This year Pantone picked two colors. Though it isn’t something they do every year, it is something they have done before. They chose Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow and described it as β€œA marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.” I’m not going to lie - I kind of rolled my eyes, because I thought it was kind of gimmicky; however, I do think they are the colors we need // they make sense. 2020 has been somewhat grey and hopefully 2021 will be brighting and happy like that of a shadow / sunshine. I also think they make sense because neutrals are so in, not to mention they are relaxing and not anxiety ridden. Neons also have been having a moment, plus are warm and inviting. I love a good yellow / green, so I’m HERE FOR IT.

While I have pretty much always touched on the color of the year, something I started back in 2018 was having a word of the year. I decided that my word for 2021 will be THANKFUL. Something that 2020 taught me was to be thankful for what I have. It made me go deeper and think more. I learned to truly look around me and also look inward. While it was a hard year, I am trying to view it as a growth year. Some of our greatest lessons come with a price and I’d rather pay that price learn from them the first time, than to completely miss the point and have to learn it a harder way. I want to go into 2021 with the same gumption we have to get out of 2020 and to bring with me all that I have learned. May we never forget this year and what it taught us.

Back to the colors of the year… I typically like to make a collage of everything because it is fun for me, so I hope you enjoy it too! If you like any of the products you can click the image and it will take you through to the link. These colors are pretty easy to incorporate into your wardrobe if you are looking to take part in the trend. Enjoy!!

Thanks so much for reading - I can’t wait to see what 2021 has in store for us and LMents of Style. XOXO
