Since I can remember, I have made it a tradition to start out each new year featuring Pantone’s color of the year. They named Viva Magenta (Pantone 18-1750) the hue for 2023. Pantone says it β€œvibrates with vim and vigor” and is a signal of strength as it is β€œbrave and fearless” and is β€œa pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.” Usually I can kind of work it into my own year, but I’m not so sure. This is the most blank slate year I’ve had with pretty much nothing planned; however, I can say I feel mentally and emotionally stronger this year than last? Still working on that physical part postpartum ;)

Keep reading for more inspiration for 2023 and ways to incorporate Viva Magenta into your life.

2022’s color was Veri Peri, which was pretty calming. Well, our 2022 was anything but calm. We completed 10+ trips where we had to fly, that alone is a high number. Not to mention, we took too many road trips to count. Needless to say, we were go-go-go. Looking at this year, the only for sure getaway we have is that Nick has a golf trip coming up. We of course we will do some sort of travel for the holidays as well. It’s not bad that we don’t have any plans, but it sure is a bit odd for our typical lifestyle. Perhaps we need to learn to be still? Of course one can never truly be still with toddlers, so I suppose we could be like Viva Magenta in β€œwriting a new narrative”.

Typically I grab something new to photograph Pantone’s chosen color in, but I already had this bodysuit and am obsessed with it, so I just went with it. I actually own it in a pretty floral print as well (that is now sold out), but recently found it white and I think I may need to add it to my wardrobe. It has been my favorite top to don postpartum because it makes me feel pretty and doesn’t accent my waist, all while still giving me a figure.

I rounded up some other magenta items that have caught my eye and made a collage for you below. All the items click directly to the product. Remember Pantone’s color isn’t just for clothing, but works with accessories and even home goods too. There’s a way for everyone to add this pop of color into their life if even just a swipe of nail polish or a headband. The color definitely feels fun and life giving. Great for 2023 if you ask me. If a brightish pinky/purple feels a bit off and makes you nervous, Pantone just wrote and signed your permission slip, so try it out!

Each new year, I try to choose a word of the year for myself. Well, Pantone sometimes decides to give a year two colors (they did in 2021 and have done it prior to that), so this year I am giving myself two words: CARE LESS. No, not careless. I also don’t plan on not caring about people or anything of that nature. You see, I often care too much and put others’ needs or what I think they might need or want over my own. I dissect what I could have done differently or what someone might think of me and to be frank, it is quite crippling. I want to care less about opinions that don’t matter. I need to care less about how someone is acting, when I can just let it roll off my shoulders. I am going to strive to care less about pleasing others when it is detrimental to me. I desire to care less about feeling like I have to say yes to something for the sheer reason of I think it may make someone not like me for saying no. There is probably a prettier way to say care less, like β€œsoften” or even β€œlet go.” Soften to myself and how I think of myself and my wants and needs. Let go of what I think I have to do. β€œCare less” feels like a more negative word(s) choice than people typically choose for a new year; however, I think it is perfect for me…because if I don’t change something around my mindset and really do try to care less in certain areas, it will not be a good year for me. I still plan on being considerate of others, cooking and baking for them, giving gifts, and so on. I just want to treat myself a little better! That’s what bettering myself looks like for me this year.

What are your hopes and desires for 2023? I have some really basic ones like do a workout class a week, put my scar treatment on twice daily, keep up with my diastsis recti PT, and consistently use my NuFace so I can finally give you a review! Those are all personal; I need to sit down and write career goals (hoping for my YouTube!) and decide what Nick and I want our year to look like. I can tell you one thing, it may involve sending our laundry out. Lots to do, but I’m looking forward to it. Happy New Year - I’m excited to take on this blank slate of a year with you. Cheers!

P.S. Anyone else think of Magenta, Blues Clues’ friend?! It’s kind of funny that last year was a blue hue and this year was a pink hue, just like the Nickelodeon show friends!
