So, I actually had a completely different post scheduled and ready for tonight, but about 7:00 pm, I got the urge to shoot, edit, and write a different post. My "ready" post was scheduled for 7:15 pm, if that tells you anything...It's now 8:30 and I'm two pieces of chocolate chip pumpkin bread in.
Anyway, I was moved by the Crate and Barrel "Thankful" line; it inspired this post for sure. I wish I could say it was motivated by something else, but hey? I'll take what I can get. I started thinking about what today's date was and mentally fast-forwarded through the rest of 2016. I mean that's what this season tends to do, right? We pack it full of parties and social gatherings and of course, family. And it's gone in the blink of an eye.
Today is September 24th. One month from now will be 4 days before my wedding day. Two months from now will be Thanksgiving. Three months from now will be Christmas Eve. Four months from now we will be well in 2017. Yikes. Did that really just happen? I have the problem stressing out out, creating unnecessary anxiety, and not enjoying the moment. I work a 9-5 job, release blog posts 4 times a week, am trying to put the finishing touches on my new apartment and wedding, all while trying to have a social life. Speaking of my life, it is about to change drastically, and during the busiest season, at that. Don't get me wrong. I love this time of year! Football, sweater weather, a change in scenery...I mean who doesn't?
Amidst the pumpkin spice and peppermint this season, I challenge you to find at least one thing you are thankful for, everyday. Whether that acknowledgement comes during your quiet time in the morning, or as you walk in to your home after work, make it a habit to do so, and you'll start noticing more and more blessings that you have in your life.
Let's face it. We live in a cruel world. A world where more kindness and love is the answer. I know we all have our bad days, but if we stop and remember what we are thankful for, that has a hugely positive affect on our moods, which then can help better other people's days and so on. Be the domino affect! Thanksgiving shouldn't be just one day of the year...it should be an everyday mantra. Take time to give thanks and notice the change in your heart and those around you.
I titled this post "A Challenge to be Thankful", because sometimes it is hard. Sometimes life straight up sucks. BUT. You can always find at least one thing to be thankful for, and when you do that, you're golden. Personally, I keep post it's on my desk of sayings and love having little reminders like this wine glass. The whole Crate and Barrel Thankful collection is pretty bomb though, and every piece is under $40! I will definitely take these wine glasses out year-round, not just the last Thursday of November.
How do you stay thankful? Would love to hear your thoughts to inspire mine, and others!
