Dallas Fashion Scene: The Byron Nelson

Dallas Fashion Scene: The Byron Nelson

Lilly x Target Crop Top (obviously Lilly Pulitzer for Target sold out, similar here and here) | Maxi Skirt (I actually made this one, but here is a similar one) | Dolce Vita Sandal | Kate Spade Crossbody | Kendra Scott Earrings and Necklace | BTB Jewelry Green Bracelet | White Bracelet | OPI Nail Polish | Clinique Lip Color

Let me start this post out by telling you a fun little story about my top. So, it was part of LillyxTarget collection. (If you missed it, I also snagged this and this from the line). Anyway, my sweet boyfriend came with me to help me grab stuff. This top was one of the things he grabbed for me- I hurriedly tried on all of my pieces and then tried to get out of Target before anyone mauled me for my clothes.

Later on that day, I was glancing over my purchases and realized that this was in fact a girls top...a little girls top that had been mixed in with the women's pieces and I was one of the crazies who mistakenly bought a girls sized top without realizing it. Did I mention that I tried it on in the store and everything? I knew that I had to pair a maxi skirt with it to offset the shortness (see my rules about styling a crop top here). I couldn't find one that I liked and agree with the price, "sew" (get it?;) ) I decided to just make one to match! So, what do you think? Do I pull it off? I got a lot of compliments on it at the Byron- one guy told me I looked like a hula girl, and lady told me that I looked like a mermaid. Outfit mission accomplished, am I right?!

Anyway, back to the topic at hand...The Byron Nelson! I've been going with my dad to the Byron Nelson every year since EDS still sponsored it! Even if you don't know what EDS even was, you should at least know about this tournament. The Byron Nelson is the best golf tournament in the DFW (sorry Colonial. Byron does it better). AND the latest Masters winner, Jordan Spieth, got his start playing there! Well...in my mind it is where he started. The first time I saw him play was when he was a guest player at the Byron when he was still in high school!  He did very well that round, but has since done even better. I'm so happy for this great, Dallas guy to be doing so well!

This year, I decided to go and see what trends I could find. The first time I did a project like this was for my professor Dr. Divita, while in my Trends and Forecasting class at Baylor University. I went to Austin, Texas and shot pictures for HOURS. I don't remember what trend I covered (it was 3 years ago. give me a break), but I do remember it was SO fun. I named my project Humans of ATX, after the ever popular Humans of New York.

Next up, my "Humans of the Byron Nelson" project. Let me just say that I was paparazzi snapping these photos and that they were on my iPhone 5S. You can't bring a camera into the event (I had to take the outfit picture in a surrounding neighborhood!), so don't mind the fact that they aren't hi-res...I actually think that it kind of makes them fun :)

I had to share these...I found the EDS Byron Nelson hat a thrift shop on Saturday- so fun and coincidental. The middle pic is on a green screen- my green skirt and Nick's green shirt blended in PERFECTLY. This pic was too hilarious not to share. And, last but not least, is my bf, er, I mean bff Jordan Spieth ;) See another pic of the day here.

Okay, so the first trend I noticed (and that you will see above) is what you expect when you go to a golf tournament. You see Lilly Pulitzer prints, Ray-Ban Clubmasters, J. Crew goddesses, and prepsters out the wazoo. Not surprising at all, but still worth reporting.

So, who won the Byron Nelson? I'll bet you $5 that more than half of the people who attended the event don't even know the answer. (By the way, it was Steven Bowditch). BUT, what they will be able to tell you is their exact outfit was and what their arch nemesis was wearing. Dallas ladies are known for dressing well, but they dress to the nines for this event...this means wearing heels, platforms, wedges, etc. If you aren't going to wear a high heel, then you better have some cool statement shoe, like little miss gladiator sandal on the left!

Fedoras are out, panama hats are in. You will still see the occasional sun hat, but for the most part Panamas are what you're going to see! I have my eye on this one...I might just have to get it for my Hawaii trip!

You're probably telling me that crossbody bags have been in for a while and I'm dumb. But, I'm not talking about that oblong coach bag in the back of your closet, or even your Michael Kors. I'm discussing true crossbody bags, without the crazy logos and branding. Personally, I love CBs, but I need a bigger bag for everyday use.

You've probably noticed that a lot of these trend photos, crossover into other categories and "dresses" is for sure one of them. If there are heels, there is probably a dress ;) Now, there are some girls who will wear polos and caps, but for the most part, you're not going to see them at all!

If they aren't wearing a dress, they are probably wearing a pair of fun, printed shorts!  Shorties come in all colors, sizes, and textures these days, so it makes sense that they would be worn here.

What's your favorite trend that I spotted? Do you partake in any of them?

P.S. Don't forget, it is Wednesday, so it's Link Up time!  Feel free to add your link, but be sure to check out and support others' blogs :)
