For Good Friday this year, Nick and I went to the Ennis bluebonnet fields with my parents and sister. (and Dino!) In Texas, bluebonnets are a signal of spring and a pretty biiiiiig deal. If you haven’t taken pictures in the bluebonnets before are you even Texan?! Anyway, Ennis is literally the bluebonnet capital of Texas, so if you want get some good pics, it is the place to go! I’m born and raised in Texas and had never been, so I was excited for this little day trip.

Bluebonnets bloom other places besides Ennis of course, but not as many in one location. You can find them across the highways and in some random fields, but no one else has the bluebonnet trails! You can literally drive 40 miles of bluebonnets in Ennis! We didn’t drive the whole trail, but we did get our fill of pretty blooms.

They have one field specifically for pictures, so make sure you head there if you want a good photo opp. Dogs are welcome too! I will say… they have an app for Ennis to help with the bluebonnet trails, etc but it wasn’t very straightforward in my opinion. The instructions for where to find the picture field didn’t make sense or at least I couldn’t follow them! If you type in “Ennis Bluebonnet Fields” in google maps, that works better! You’ll stop before you hit the “pin”, but you cannot miss where everyone is taking pictures! There’s a pond and a bridge, with some forestry and then of course the stars of the show…the bluebonnets!

After some pictures, we went to Bailey’s Cafe for lunch and ate some comfort food. Ennis is only about 40ish minutes from downtown Dallas, so it was just short car ride back home.

The Ennis bluebonnets are shown for the month of April only, so the season has come and gone, but go ahead and pencil in your trip for next year! They also have a Bluebonnet Festival every year, which involves live music, food, wine, and more!

If you plan to head there and take some pictures, make sure you bring a blanket to sit on. Though they are fields specifically for bluebonnets, they still have things like ants and other bugs. Might as well throw some bug spray in while you’re at it. Everyone in your “picture party” will thank you! Morning / just before sunset will work best for photos, but regardless of the time of day, you’ll be able to capture its beauty! My pictures were taken around 11 am and the sunglasses definitely came in handy!

Have you been to the festival before? I’m adding it to my to-do list for next year. Go ahead and give me your Ennis favorites while you’re at it!
