Hello, friends! Chances are you know someone who has had eyelash extensions. Are you considering them / not sure if you want to take the plunge or not? Well, stay tuned, because I'm going to do an eyelash extension series, for ya! I'm starting out easy, because most people don't have an issue once they get them. The hard part is battling the questions and "what ifs" beforehand! If you have had your doubts or are just looking to learn more, here you go!
What Are Eyelash Extensions? Lash Extensions are synthetic strands that are made to replicate a natural eyelash. When applied, eyelash extensions lengthen and thicken your own natural eyelashes. Single strands are applied to each individual eyelash, one by one. With proper application, lash extensions look and feel completely natural.
How long will a set of Eyelash Extensions last? When applied by a professional, eyelash extensions will last the length of the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes, usually between 4 and 8 weeks. Depending on your activity and day-to-day routine, refills should only be required every 2 to 4 weeks.
How often should I get refills? It is recommend getting a refill every 2 to 4 weeks. A refill is needed to fill in any lashes that have fallen due to the natural cycle of your own lashes. Refill appointments require approximately 50-60 minutes.
Are Amazing Lashes safe? Amazing Lash Studio only uses pharmaceutical grade adhesive which never comes in contact with your skin. Synthetic eyelashes are adhered about 1mm away from your skin.
Can I apply mascara to Eyelash Extensions? Mascara is not really required since the extensions actually give the illusion of wearing mascara. In fact, one of the many benefits of eyelash extensions is that you do not need to use mascara. If you must apply mascara, however, only use water-based mascara. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA as they can dissolve the bonding agent used and they can shorten the life of your eyelash extensions. Use care when washing off the water-based mascara and only use a water based eye makeup remover. Personally, I do not wear mascara with my extensions, because I feel like doing that defeats the purpose of them. Plus, I think my lashes look great without it!
How soon can I wash my face after the extensions are applied? It is recommended that you do not wash your eye area for about 24-48 hours after the eyelash application. A special waterproof bonding agent is used, but it has to able to set. Glue does not contain any fumes or irritants and is long lasting. The bonding agent used to apply your eyelash extensions is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise normally, just wait at least 24 hours.
Is the product FDA approved? Is it safe? Currently the FDA is not regulating eyelash extensions because the eyelash extensions are applied to the natural eyelash hairs and do not touch the skin. The application process is pain-free. Some people consider the process relaxing. I actually fall asleep during my appointments!
How long will it take to Apply Eyelash Extensions and how is it done? The application process for lash extensions normally takes about 90-120 minutes for a full set of lashes and 50-60 minutes for a refill. You will lay comfortably on a massage table with your eyes closed. I put the round pillow under my knees and curl up with a blanket! Relaxing ambient music is played while the professional technician applies your lash extensions. Your lower lashes will be covered. The extensions will be then applied to your upper lashes one at a time. You will not be able to open your eyes during this entire process.
Do I have to do anything to prepare for the service? You should thoroughly clean your lashes with a mild cleanser. Do not use oily makeup remover to clean your lashes prior to the application. Lashes should not be curled (unless directed otherwise by your technician) and all mascara should be removed. If I am getting a new, full set, I don't wear eye makeup at least 24 hours beforehand.
I wear contacts. Can I still get lash extensions? Yes! I actually wear contacts Since lash extensions do not touch your skin, they do not conflict or interfere with your contacts or normal daily activities. I would tell your technician if you wear glasses sometimes, as this will affect the length of your lashes. You don't want them bumping up your glasses all the time!
What kind of eyelash extensions are out there? There are 3 different kinds of eyelashes - mink, silk, and synthetic. Amazing Lash uses mink and that is the most recommended one! Mink lashes are man-made fibers, made to look imitate mink fur. They are soft and silky, like real fur; however, they won't go flat when wet, like real mink. Mink ones are great, because they are strong and shiny, yet feel like your own lash. They only need a 1:1 ratio of extension to natural lash, whereas as other options need more like 2:1 or 3:1. Their only downfall is that they take longer to put on than other kinds, but they do tend to last longer. If you can, go with the faux mink lashes!
What styles of Eyelash Extensions can I get? There are several different styles, thicknesses, and lengths you can get. Here at Amazing Lash, choose between Gorgeous, Natural, Sexy, and Cute! You can also choose between volume lashes, solid lashes, and two-tone lashes. If you want to celebrate Halloween all month, try some of their colored eyelash extensions, like red, blue, green, or purple!
How much do Eyelash Extensions cost? Eyelash extensions generally cost around $150-$250, depending on where you go. Right now, you can get your first set of eyelash extensions at Amazing Lash, for only $80! If you join their membership, you get a $25 refill each month, or you can just pay $35 per refill, without paying month to month.
I heard eyelash extensions stunt your natural lash growth. Is that true? If you let all of your extensions fall out, your eyelashes may seem shorter. This is a combination of things. 1) You had had lengtheners on and your natural eyelashes will feel shorter. 2) The extension is glued onto your natural lash, so they don't end up growing as long. They will return to normal length, a couple weeks after they have all fallen out.
My eyelashes fall out more in Autumn. Is that normal? Actually fall is shedding season, so you may experience a faster lash cycle than usual. Consider not waiting as long between your lash fills. You want them to look good for you holiday parties!
What about those stories I've heard about swollen eyes or all your eyelashes falling out? Whenever you arrive at Amazing Lash, you fill out paperwork. On that, they ask you about allergies and such, to try and avoid this. They ask questions to find out if you could be allergic to the glue, as a preventative measure. Also, eyelashes can collect bacteria and such, which of course can cause reactions. Amazing Lash is very clear with caring for your lashes and tell you how to do so, again as a preventative measure. If the proper precautions are followed, and you care for your lashes correctly, chances are that you won't experience any of those bad symptoms.
