You may or may not have noticed, but one of the trends that has popped up during the pandemic revolves around the classic silk scarf. Perhaps it is because they are so versatile and make for a great face coverings among other things ;) The most popular way to wear them right now is as a top, but there are so many other ways to sport them. I’m excited to share several ways for you to wear the trend this season!
Silk Scarf | Levi’s 501 Skinny Jeans | Gucci Dionysus Wallet on Chain | Viva Mules | Lace Camisole
I wanted to share this picture from 19 years ago to say that I have in fact been sporting the scarf trend for years. YEARS I tell you! But really… among other things like my mom’s old bridesmaid dresses, my friends and I would dress up in scarves. Hah!
HOW BIG SHOULD THE SCARF BE?
Anyway, back to the topic at hand… when you are shopping for scarves that you want to wear as a top, you need to make sure it is large enough. Traditional bandanas are around 21 inches, but you need a larger one if you plan on wearing it around your chest. The one I’m wearing here is 35.4”,but I have a ton of extra room and could probably do something around 30” if I wanted to. For reference, I’m typically a size small.
WHAT FABRIC SHOULD IT BE?
The trend is really around silk scarves, but silk is expensive! The one I’m wearing is 100% polyester, but looks and feels like silk. I haven’t seen a cotton scarf big enough to wear, but I would be happy to try it out as a top if I could find it.
WHERE CAN I FIND A SCARF?
Mine is actually from Amazon and under $15. I have “color 1”, but I also want “color 8”, as it would be great for fall! Sunday Silk has some really pretty scarves that are big enough, as does 12th Tribe.
HOW TO WEAR IT:
As a top: I usually wear mine as a full top, but don’t forget about it as a bandeau. I included an image of it just for fun, but I’d probably only wear it like that to the beach or an event like Coachella. If you need more structure in your bandeau, try shaping around your strapless bra like this!
On your head: I’ve been wearing scarves as a headband for awhile now! With bigger scarves I just tuck the tied pieces back into the scarf, just leaving the knot exposed. You can also wear it as a head covering or face covering. Don’t forget you can tie it around your ponytail too!
Around your purse: You can use a scarf to cover the handle, so your natural body oils don’t get on the leather or you can tie it around the end, like I did! It’s a fun little addition to any bag, plus you can change them out seasonally and match any outfit.
As an accessory: I love to tie a scarf around my belt loop or around my waist, to perk up any outfit. They work well tied around a hat too!
Do you have a favorite way to wear it that I didn’t mention / haven’t worn? Let me know! I’d love to try it out and can’t wait to add more to my ever growing collection of scarves.
Side note - they also make for great home decor! scrunch it up as center piece or use it as a runner. The options are endless!! The green and brown color option I want would be perfect come fall.
