Dry Brush (I also have this one from Primally Pure)| One Love Organics Love and Charcoal Mask | Robe | Towel | Madewell Candle | Ugg Slippers

I gave y'all a little teaser that this was coming, back on my September Favorites! I first read about dry brushing from Primally Pure. (side note- you can get 10% off your order with them with code ELLEMULENOS) It piqued my interest, so I read more about it, and finally took the plunge this past July. I haven't stopped since! Dry brushing may be something "new" that you've heard about, but like jade rolling and the gua sha tool, it has been around for centuries.  It's thought the the Egyptians first practiced dry brushing, but it pretty much all ancient cultures have dabbled in it here and there! Sooo anyway, let's get to it. Here's the deets on dry brushing and how it can help your inside AND outside!

  • WHY USE IT:

    • Lymphatic Drainage: Just like the jade rolling and gua sha tool that I previously mentioned, one of the benefits is to detox your body and help it drain better!

    • Exfoliation: The semi-soft bristles brush against your skin and help lift off dead skin cells.

    • Circulation: Brushing increases blood flow, which helps your skin get nutrients faster. This also helps it glow, because it's naturally plumping and keeps skin clear.

    • Appearance: Because you're getting rid of toxins and such, dry brushing helps with visible imperfections, including cellulite!

  • WHEN SHOULD YOU USE IT:

    • Before a shower - you can do it when you're not about to shower or even after a shower too, but this is the general consensus on the best "when". One of the benefits is exfoliation so, think of the shower as washing off the dead skin cells that you have brushed.

    • Morning - you cannnn do this at night, but morning is said to be better, because dry brushing has an energizing quality that you probably don't want right before you go to sleep.

  • HOW DO YOU USE IT: (for 3 -5 minutes, always toward your heart)

    • Legs up: Start at your feet and work your way upwards, never downwards. An area I focus on is the back of my thighs.

    • Counter Clockwise on stomach: This helps aid digestion. Gut health is everything!

    • Hands to Shoulders: Brush up your arm, top side only.

    • Raise arms and brush down: Start from your hands and end at your heart - this helps bring drainage to your armpits!

    • Counterclockwise over Heart: End where it all begins.

    • Finish with a Shower and/or body oil or lotion: Whether you shower or not, make sure to moisturize your newly freshened skin! I follow with One Love Organics Vitamin C Body Oil or Primally Pure Eucalyptus + Lavender Body Butter.

  • WHICH BENEFITS DID I SEE: I definitely feel the energy it gives, but the biggest thing that I saw was something else that I felt. You could never really tell, but I used to get bumps/clogged pores on the backs of my thighs. Dry-brushing has drastically decreased this and left my skin feeling softer!

  • WILL I CONTINUE DRY BRUSHING: YES! I really like how it feels anddd how it makes me feel. Plus it is super budget friendly and anyone can do it! I try to do it once a day, but sometimes it ends up being more like every other day.

Side note -I don't dry brush my face, though you can. To exfoliate my face, I use One Love Organics Cleansing Sponge Charcoal Heart and One Love Organics Brand New Day Microderma Scrub & Masque mixed with One Love Organics Easy Does It Foaming Cleanser. I've also recently tried Biossance Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Facial that has exfoliating beads! I need to use it a bit longer to give my full opinion on it though.

P.S. here is a video I made, recapping everything I mentioned above. Enjoy!
