Last summer, I caved and finally tried out Summersalt swimsuits. I had heard so many good things about them and wanted to see for myself. I tried looking up sizing information, besides suggestions on their website, I couldn’t find any help. Most of my blog ideas come from the fact that I am 1) interested in the topic and 2) have to research things for myself and figure you might be interested too! Wellll turns out you wanted to know more about Summersalt too. Fast forward to almost a year later, and Are Summersalt Swimsuits Worth The Price is one of my top blog posts to date. Not to mention their swimsuits are one of my top sellers!
Definitely read the blog post - it has reviews and photos of a ton of different swimsuits as well as my thoughts, their sizes, etc. BUT, spoiler alert, I did deem them worth the price. They are great quality, fit amazingly well, are eco-friendly, are size inclusive, anddd I could go on. Anyway, Summersalt has several other lines they offer besides swimsuits, so I decided to try them out and see if they are as good as their swimwear line. Keep reading to hear my thoughts on their fairly new activewear collection!
Summersalt Reversible Packable Jacket | Summersalt Beyond The Lounge Chair Shorts | Summersalt Mesh Diver Bikini Crop | BKR Tutu Water Bottle | Nike Sneakers
Let me start by saying that I LOVE where Summersalt is coming from with this collection. Their activewear line is based on versatility and functionality, and it’s cute. You can’t beat that combination! They style a lot of their swim tops with this line, to promote cross-function. Summersalt also uses the same UPF (sun) protection and recycled materials that you know and love from their original collection. Basically, all they are doing here is making products you can use throughout the entire year vs a couple of months a year. Another spoiler alert… this jacket and these shorts were my favorite from the line. Scroll down for more in depth reviews and more product inclusion.
Summersalt Beyond The Loungewear Tankini Top in Sea Urchin and White Sand (sizes 2 - 22, wearing a 4) Summersalt Beyond The Lounge Chair Shorts in Sea Urchin (sizes XS - 2X, wearing a S)
The tankini top is definitely flattering and comfortable! I think it would be great for a humid Florida day, but not something I’d wear in LA a lot. They tout that you can take it from yoga to the beach, but to be honest, I wouldn’t wear this to yoga. While it does have soft cups, it is only gentle support, not high impact. Granted, it does literally say “gentle support” - it isn’t claiming to do otherwise! I couldn’t wear it to yoga like it suggests, unless I put on a sports bra with it… but it is never advertised with one, so not sure about that anyway. I do think this would make for a great swimsuit top, so for sure pair it with one of their bottoms if you’re looking for a more modest bikini. It is great quality and has adjustable straps, so nothing to complain about there. It’s $60, so kind of pricey; however, the bikini tops are $50 and have less fabric than this top, so the pricing makes sense.
I thought the shorts were fantastic! My favorite bottoms for sure. They are extremely well made and I love the mesh detailing. The zipper pockets are also a great add - nothing is coming out of those!! They have the signature sun protection, sweat protection, and aren’t too short. They don’t have a liner like a lot of shorts do these days, but they don’t gape open, so you don’t really need that anyway. They do suggest sizing up, which I thought was odd, because they ran true to size for me. I did order mediums to try out, but preferred my normal size. I could see if you were wearing them over a lot of stuff, it could be beneficial, but in my opinion, get your normal size. These shorts are kind of pricey at $65 - more than double Nike tempo shorts! I will say that the fabric and fit is a lot nicer, plus you have the trim and zipper details, so the price does make since; however, you just have to decide if that is worth it to you. BONUS: They make a very similar skirt that is actually really cute!
Summersalt Beyond The Lounge Chair Wind Breaker in Sea Urchin and Atlantic and White Sand (sizes XS - 2X, wearing a S) Summersalt Sun Shield Leggings in Sea Urchin and Atlantic (sizes XS - 2X, wearing a S) Summersalt Mesh Diver Bikini Crop in White Sand (sizes 2 - 14, wearing an 8 because I wanted to order to see it, even though my size was sold out. Needed a 4.)
Okay the windbreaker is such a cool piece. Of course it has the signature sun protection and sweat wicking fabric, with mesh detailing to boot. LOADS of pockets, and even a surprise hood! It stays zipped up in the collar of the jacket until you need it. My only issue with it is that I wish it fit tighter. The flare out at the waist and hips is cute, but I wish it was more form fitting. Also, it retails for $95, so that’s a lot of money. Granted, Summersalt sells one piece swimsuits for $95 and this jacket has a lot more bells and whistles, so it makes sense for sure. I’d size down in this piece, unless you want to fit a little bigger. I just know on me it didn’t look like it did on the model.
I was most disappointed in these sun shield leggings. Now, technically these are from their first swim line. I think it’s great they are giving people stylish options to cover their entire body when they swim! It’s something people aren’t doing and it has the potential to be a booming market. If you’re looking for a full body swimsuit, just pair it with their swim tunic! The leggings even have strings to tie to the tunic, to make sure everything stays concealed! Summersalt says to wear these to yoga or the beach, but these were too big for me to wear at all! I’m a 4 in all of their swimsuits and typically never go smaller than a S in leggings. If I were to wear them swimming, they’d surely fall off of me. They would in yoga class too! For $80 I would rather spend $20 and buy Lululemons. I would only recommend these if you are truly lounging in them or are using them as a swimsuit.
The Diver Bikini Crop is honestly so stinking cute. I knew I wanted to style it with these leggings, but they were sold out in a 4, so I ordered the 8. It was for sure too big, but I love the design. The mesh back is so pretty and the cut and fit is so classic. I would totally wear it to yoga with a racerback sports bra and would consider wearing it out, since the fabric is so nice. Would obviously wear it to the beach too! My only con? It hasn’t been restocked in all of the sizes. Can I please get one in every color?! I need to wear it on my next hike. Bonus: Summersalt styles this fused bikini top with the leggings as well. It’s really cute, but I wish it came in a more neutral option.

The only review for this section is this reversible packable jacket because I’ve shared thoughts on the other two items already. That’s okay though, because THIS JACKET IS AMAZING AND STANDS ALONE. It’s lightweight, but keeps you warm. The colorblocked design is fun and trendy, but it’s reversible to solid black, so also practical. There’s a special pocket in the right side that holds a little pouch, because this jacket folds up into a tiny square! It’s also $95 (like the other jacket), but so much more worth it in my opinion! Wear it to jog in, but also wear it on casual Friday or to the beach. Layer it with a turtleneck sweater or pair it with a crop like I do here. Keep it in your purse all folded up, in case you ever need a jacket. This is my number one suggestion from their collection and I couldn’t recommend it more!
Overall, I think Summersalt did a great job making things versatile and keeping them practical with this line. My only disappointment is that I was looking for actual workout clothes. Perhaps that was my own misunderstanding, since they call it activewear and not anything technical or physical fitness related. I would for sure workout in the shorts and wear the diver crop swimming, to yoga, or on a hike. The bomber is great and of course good for walks or wearing to work. Maybe they’ll come out with real workout leggings soon, but I have a feeling that their clientele may not look to them for that sort of apparel. Good for Summersalt for knowing their market and creating amazing quality clothing with eco-friendly and sustainable practices.
