Before I got engaged, I never wore white. I got engaged at the end of 2015, so it really hasn’t even been that long since white became a regular part of my wardrobe. I didn’t even own a pair of white jeans until 2012ish!!

I am pretty pale and have always been painfully aware of it. In the recent years, I’ve definitely grown more comfortable in my own skin…you know not really caring about “looking tan”. If I had a dime for every time I heard someone say “ugh I need a spray tan”, I wouldn’t be writing this right now! (jk, love y’all) Because of this stigma, I always felt like I couldn’t wear white. Actually one of my most popular posts is called How to Wear White when You’re Pale!

You may have noticed, you may not have noticed, BUT for almost a year, I’ve been using a lightroom preset on my photos. This is basically an edit I applied to all my Instagram pictures. I really liked it – it made my feed cohesive! The hard part was 1) it made me look orange and I always had to dial that back and 2) it made me blend in with everyone else.  I thought I was ok with my skin tone (and I still think I am!), but this filter was a way for me to “be like everyone else.” Growing up I was pretty self-conscious of my somewhat translucent arms and legs and this was a way for me to conceal without really trying or realizing what I was doing.

Nick actually called this out a couple weeks ago and we decided to drop my filter cold turkey. My Instagram feed isn’t as cohesive, but I’m okay with that.  I actually get a lot of comments/questions that are like “hey, I have fair skin like you and have trouble finding good neutral lipsticks” - why did I not share stuff like this with you sooner?! I follow quite a bit of influencers and creatives and don’t see a lot of “fair skin” tips, so I’m excited to throw those y’alls way too. Anyway, all I have to say is whoops! We all lose site of ourselves sometimes. Whether it’s your skin color, your hair type or even that gap between your teeth, I hope you know you are special and wonderful the way you are!

BRB – gonna grab my nontoxic sunscreen and freckle away while I wait for summer to arrive!
