Happy New Year! We made it to 2024! I wasn’t sure we would. Last year was probably the hardest (thus far) of our parenting journey. I know there will always be difficult parts, but for this particularly hard part, it feels nice to start a new year and try to metaphorically turn the corner. The twins agreed and gifted us by sleeping from 9:30 pm to 7:45 am on New Year’s Day, which has not been the norm as of late.
Pantone’s hue for 2024 is Peach Fuzz (PMS 13-1023.) To be honest I kind of turned up my nose at it and grimaced. Peach fuzz? I mean I love a good peach and I do consume the skin, but it feels kind of gross to be the color of the year? Perhaps I’m just thinking of the peach fuzz my aesthetician derma-planed off my face? People typically find “peach fuzz” pesky and annoying after all. I’m also unsure this color will play out well across verticals like home or apparel , as it isn’t that great of a color except in beauty. In my opinion of course… perhaps because if I really wear the color, as it washes me out?
Regardless, keep reading for more thoughts and inspiration, as well as how to incorporate Peach Fuzz into your life this year.

Pantone really shouldn’t choose (I’m not suggesting they have) colors based on the types of collaborations they can do with them. Though, they do get collabs from it and this one seemed almost un-collaboration-able? This color surprised me a bit as it reminds me of an 80’s bridesmaid dress and I’m not really sure how they can partner with brands on it. Oh well. The color is calming and I love a good texture, so let’s just go ahead and roll with it. Pantone said "[Peach Fuzz] captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It's a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.”
I don’t think I’ll be wearing the color anytime soon other than a highlighter or blush, but I do appreciate the sentiment of the choie. Here’s to a little less gross fuzz and a bit more heartwarming fuzz this year.
Here’s a collage of some of my favorite peach fuzz-esque items. Click directly on an item to be directed to the link. Not a ton of clothing, but if you do go for a piece, I’d personally opt for a peach inclusive pattern. If you want to wear an item that nods to the color without actually being the color, try for a darker shade of it like the terracotta or burnt orange I’m wearing here. It’s still in the peach family and is much more wearable .Unless it’s baby clothes…? With which the color of the year goes quite nicely.
** side note I actually purchased this MZ Wallace tote last year that is a pastel color block of peach, lavender, cream, and ice blue, so maybe I did feel the peach trend coming?
I haven’t had time to sit down and really think about what I want 2024 to mean to me. And no, it’s not that I haven’t made time - hah! We have been nannyless and traveling essentially for the entire month of December, so I really haven’t had a “year review” for 2023, much less time to think about the current year. Our days have been starting at 6:30 am (if not earlier) and end around 10:00 pm without any naps - us or the twins. Hah! We are hoping to curb into better sleep habits soon - we’ll see! If anything, it has helped me and Nick just go straight to bed and not waste time on a show.
All that to say, I usually share a word of the year. I believe my word this year is “listen.” Listen to myself, my body, my mind. Listen to others, really hear and notice them. This allows me to learn more and react less. Maybe “pause” would be a more impactful sounding word… and I am happy to pause, but I think the main point for me is hearing. Truly listening and hearing! It will make me a better friend, wife, daughter, and mother. I suppose this also coordinates with Pantone’s desire to share a “cozy and comforting hue, nurturing compassion and heartfelt kindness.” Who would have thought?
Enjoy 2024, but remember you don’t have to wait until 2025 to “start over” if you need to do it 5 weeks or 5 months from now. The new year does create a bookend feeling that is helpful for starting a new chapter, but you decide when and where to do that. You’ve got this! I hope your year is peach fuzzy and filled with lots of love and light.
p.s. one of my favorite teas to enjoy is stash peach black tea - an easy and yummy way to get into the 2024 color of the year!
