Hello, Sunday! Sunday’s have always been one of my favorite days. From singing at church, to afternoon naps, to getting prepped for the week! Since moving to California, one of our favorite Sunday traditions has been spending the afternoon, or at least sunset, at the beach. We live less than 15 minutes from Will Rogers State Beach and continually try to take advantage of it. The photos from today’s shoot were taken near Venice Beach, but I still wanted to mention that, because currently I’m looking back on memories like these with nostalgia.
I haven’t done an Art of Versatility post in a while. Well, I did write about How to Wear Doc Marten Boots back in January, which was basically an Art of Versatility post in itself! I just didn’t title it AoV, because I knew more people would search how to wear / style them and wanted to do what was best for SEO (search engine optimization).
I never wanted to stop doing these types of post (and to be clear, I haven’t!), but to be honest, they are super annoying to shoot. Shooting isn’t my favorite anyway and to have to go back and forth, it is a big hassle. HOWEVER, I think I’ll try to start doing them more regularly again, because I feel like people aren’t going to be spending as much on clothes. While I’m sad for retailers and small boutiques who have already placed buys for spring break and early summer, I completely get it. The whole reason I started this series is to help you shop your closet and make more outfits with less! For that reason, you’ll actually see this skirt on the blog again on Wednesday! (See the Wednesday post here.) Its actually a great one for summer AND for work.
Up first, I actually paired the skirt with a midi dress. I did have to cinch the dress up, as it is longer than the skirt; regardless, I thought it was super cute! More than anything, I wanted to show that it looks good with darker colors and that you could style it into the fall. If you wear it in October / November, I’d probably go with a darker brown shoe vs nude. I would easily wear this look out or on a date. To the office too, but with a blazer or moto jacket. Dress it down with a denim jacket!
Second, I dressed it down with a graphic sweatshirt to show that you can wear it with anything from a graphic tee, to a white v-neck. Skirts and dresses with sneakers are my favorite right now! They are comfy chic for sure. I also like the burnt orange paired with the colors, as I don’t think it’s an obvious choice, for fear of being too matchy-matchy.
Last but not least, is probably how I’d wear the skirt to the office. I love the knotted shirt look, which would actually translate well into the casual category before this. A knotted tee is the best! If your workplace is more dressy, try a nicer blouse in white or burgundy, which are more elevated than this chambray.
Sooo, which is your favorite look? I like them all, but I think the last one is my favorite, because it makes the most sense! Did I mention that this skirt is an elastic waist?! COMFY AND CUTE YES PLEASE.
