Tradlands was created out of the desire to create classic and quality womenswear, inspired by menswear. I love this, because I love to peruse the mens section for myself - I actually did my senior fashion project on androgyny! They talk about passing down clothing and having it last a long time, which you know I loooove. Additionally, and more importantly, Tradlands is all about sustainable fashion and social welfare. They work together with factories who not only create quality product, but also pay their adult workers a living wage! The fashion industry can be an extremely wasteful and bad for the environment, but Tradlands uses 98% of their fabric and recycle what they do not use. On top of that, they donate what they do not sell to women’s shelters and Dress for Success. Can we pleaaaase make feel good fashion a thing?
I’m wearing their Tradlands Modern Fisher Sweater and Tradlands Moon Bandana , but they have more updated basics to offer you, like tees and denim jackets! I made a little collage of some of my favorites, below. Just click on an image to be taken to the direct link. If the image won’t click through, just refresh the page and it should work like a charm. I want to bring up price-point. People say that want to buy ethically sourced fashion or even want to bring back apparel manufacturing to the U.S.; however, most change their mind when they see the price. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but if you invest in quality items, they will take you further than fast fashion. Furthermore, you should be alarmed at super cheap clothes, because it means that the person who made it got paid little to nothing. Everyone has to make money along the way, in addition to paying for the actual garment. Let’s say you have a $20 t-shirt. Depending on where you bought it, they probably paid $10 wholesale for it. (most stores are like this, though some don’t mark up their items 50% ie Sam’s Club, which usually only does something around 15% MU). That means that the garment cost $5 to make including materials and labor. That’s like only getting paid $2ish to make a shirt. Does that make sense? Where you put your dollar matters. It speaks louder than words. Buying products from a company like Tradlands ensures you’re putting your money where your mouth is and you are making a better tomorrow for someone else.
P.S. I know y’all are aware of my love affair with Madewell bandanas. This one does not fit the same. I still love it, but didn’t want you to be surprised when you bought it. It’s 100% cotton, so it is a little more stiff and is a little smaller. I washed mine and it help loosen it up a bit/ fit better. Enjoy!!
