If you haven’t already noticed, fuzzy often shearling shoes that were once considered more of a house shoe are being worn out and about. I attribute this to the trickle down of the fuzzy, slipper-like Princeton Gucci loafer mules that have been popular over the last several years. Another early adopter to this style is the Jenni Kayne label with its shearling mule flats and slides. Whether you love or hate this outdoor slipper trend, I think it is about to blow up in a big way.

I’ll admit, this trend was a hard one for me to jump on. I try to take off my shoes as soon as I come into the house. When I do this, I immediately put on my slippers and that is that. Wearing something similar outside makes no sense to me. I never have understood wearing slippers outside the home and my brain goes crazy thinking about all the wet and dirty fur / fuzz touching the ground. I’ve had these shearling slides since earlier this year and I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve worn them out, this photo shoot being one of them.
Ultimately, I think they are such a fun trend and worth your time, mainly because I love texture. I’m originally from Texas and it doesn’t get cool until late November / December. This leaves about 2ish months of really cute fall clothes that you may or may not feel like wearing due to the heat. Living in Southern California, it doesn’t get as hot, but it doesn’t get as cold either. We live in a +/- 10 of 70 degrees for the most part. That being said, we don’t get a ton of fall looks here either. Why I like the fuzzy trend so much is that it incorporates a fall texture without making you overheat.
Take the dress I’m wearing today. Sure it has long sleeves, but it can be easily worn in the spring and summer with sandals or espadrilles. I can style it for fall with boots or booties, but I’m not always in the mood for that. This is actually the outfit I am planning on wearing home from the hospital after I deliver, so I for sure didn’t want enclosed shoes then. I love how it looks with these shearling slides. Fall began last week and the shoes give a nod to autumn without me having to cram my foot into a boot or sweat out a layer.

I’m pretty much just going to have to get over the fact that fuzzy shoes can get weirdly dirty. Sure I’ll take good care of them, but I can’t be too crazy about it. That would be the look but don’t touch mentality and what would the point be of having the shoes then if I don’t wear them / enjoy them? I’m the type of person who doesn’t want to use the stickers in my planner because then they’d be gone, but then I’m left with several pages of stickers that just get stored away without a purpose.
I know that this is a trend, so if you don’t want to spend a lot. on it, I rounded up some fuzzy shoes at all different price points, so you can participate without breaking the bank. The reason I like mine is because they are nicer than your average slide. If they were more like a flip flop sole, I probably wouldn’t wear them with this dress. I like that I can wear them with a dress, but could also wear them with leggings if I wanted to. Note that I usually wear a size 8.5 and got a large in these. I originally got the medium, but exchanged them for the bigger size. Really this trend is great because you can wear them to walk the dog, but you can also wear them to brunch. Don them to your yoga class, but also to date night. They pretty much go with anything and make a fun statement wherever you go. The real question is what don’t they go with?!

So, what do you think of the trend? Are you going to try it? At the very least if you don’t like it, the shoes could just transition to house slippers for you!
