To be honest, I’m not even sure where to begin regarding our stay at Chaya BnB in Mexico City, because it was nothing short of extraordinary. Neither Nick, nor I had been to Mexico City before. We went with a couple friend of ours and it was truly a wonderful time…partially because Chaya Bed and Breakfast was a great place to not only stay, but experience la ciudad de Mexico!

Let’s start with location. Chaya is on the top of a concept called the “barrio” (neighborhood in spanish). Underneath its travel chic rooms are restaurants, mezcal bars, coffee shops, clothing stores, and even local businesses office there. Not only are there a plethora of shops around it, but it also faces Alameda Park - a stunning Central Park-esque area where people sit, rollerblade, and just enjoy the architecture. (not to mention, they keep it super clean) Chaya is also a short walk from museums and the main part of downtown. You’ll find that you can uber places, but walking is almost always faster ;) We walked to the Zocalo, but you would want to drive to Polanco and Condesa. Oh and one more thing. La Azotea is a rooftop bar with a stellar view of the city that just so happens to sit atop Chaya…only a short walk up the stairs from your room.
Couldn’t get over this plant area!

Regarding the rooms and amenities, I think the pictures speak for themselves. The rooms are crisp and clean with Mexican culture sprinkled in everywhere you look. From the Buenos Dias slippers provided, to the straw, wood, and colorful pops, your mind will not only be at ease, but entertained. You know how hotel bathrooms are sometimes nightmarish? The cold, concrete of the restroom at Chaya was a dream. It was calming and resourceful, yet much like the rest of the hotel, a sight for sore eyes. The center of Chaya is one of the premier spots, as it has hammocks, cacti and a view. I could have laid there for hours!

One of my favorite things in general is food. Chaya has an actual breakfast (hence the bed and breakfast name) that is included in your stay. They have toast, fruit, yogurt, etc which was better than most continental breakfasts in general; however, they also had Mexican specials you could order. I could probably eat their huevos rancheros w/ ham, green sauce, and a side of beans EVERY DAY. They also have a daily happy hour where they serve Mexican beer, wine and mezcal. Another helpful thing they do is have filtered water accessible for you all hours of the day, in addition to a pitcher of it in your room as well.

It’s common that places that look as good as good as Chaya don’t go any deeper than physical appearance. Chaya is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. Its warmth radiates from its staff and the Mexican sun. Already trying to figure out when I can return! Nick and I couldn’t recommend Chaya enough. If you are heading to Mexico City definitely try to stay there. If it is booked up, at least make a trek to the top for La Azotea and take a peak at Chaya on the way ;)
