Last month we were able to travel to Paso Robles!! Nick and I are wine club members at Epoch Estate Wines and since we live in LA now, we opted to pick up our shipment in person and do the new release tasting. Paso Robles is only about a 3 hour drive from Los Angeles (around 5 hours if you go on a Friday afternoon and include traffic ;) ). We had been to the area once before, but it was over 4th of July, so a lot of things were closed or hours were weird. We were so excited to come back in the fall and bring some of our closest friends to experience it! If you want to see what we did last time, check out my Paso Robles Travel Guide. Keep reading for what we did this time we were in town!

FRIDAY:

Arrived in Paso Robles! We had dinner at Firestone Walker Brewing Company Taproom. It was yummy! Nick and I split the friend chicken sandwich and the hamburger. I donā€™t really drink beer, but everyone else had some of their special releases that are only available there - I tried them and they were bomb! We then went to our airbnb (would highly recommend!) and called it a night.

SATURDAY: Napa has a lot of places you can just walk in, but Paso Robles has less of those. Iā€™d encourage you to make appointments or at least check with the wineries if you need to!

  • Sasquatch: This is a cute little shack that you can drive through or walk up to. We grabbed breakfast burritos! They had veggie and bacon options.

  • Spearhead Coffee: This is walking distance from Sasquatch, in downtown Paso. Their coffee was great!!

  • Booker: Repeat offenders here, but Booker is one of our favorites! They have a beautiful property and great wine. This time we got to go on top of their hill, which was stunning.

  • Alta Colina: This was a new one for us. Their red wine was good, but it was their white wine that impressed us! You can probably just walk into this tasting room.

  • Thomas Hill Organics: Lunch stop! It was good, but it wasnā€™t our favorite stop. We should have made a reservation and been seated on their patio. Would have probably made for a better experience. I had the warm chicken salad and it was pretty tasty!

  • Epoch: The grand finale! We had a special paired tasting with the newly released wines. It was fantastic and we will for sure be back for the next release, as it was so fun! Our friends had never done a regular tasting, so we also walked into the main tasting room, so they could experience that as well.

  • 1122 Speakeasy Cocktail Lounge: I think this was one fo our favorite part of the trip, as it was so unexpected! The drinks were phenomenal and the bartenders were fantastic. They have a great list of cocktails, including seasonal rotaters, but I always like to let a bar tender make something special. For my first drink they asked questions like who do you hate, whatā€™s your favorite holiday, and more! Was very fun! I recommend getting there before it opens, as there will be a line, and they only let a couple people in at a time. Plus you can grab a seat at the bar or in the lounge. When we left, lots of people were forced to stand, as seating was gone.

  • Fish Gaucho: A yummy Mexican place in downtown! Would recommend making a reservation. If you are into Mezcal, you are in for a treat!

SUNDAY:

Starbucks: We all were dragging after our full Saturday and didnā€™t have time to stop at diner like we planned. Trusty Starbucks came in handy, and we got our breakfast and coffee to go!

Dauo: This one was a little bit of a drive from where we were staying, but we had been there before, so we knew it was worth it! The view is AMAZING. The wine is great too. You have probably seen their label, as they make some grocery store bottles, but have reserve bottles as well!

Red Scooter Deli: A yummy sandwich and salad shop, with something for everyone! Tip: If you want the sandwich to be toasted and not just the bread, you need to say you want a HOT sandwich, otherwise you will just receive toasted bread and cold insides. I apparently did it wrong. Was super delicious though!

Herman Story: This was another repeat stop for us! It is a little tasting room downtown. It is the furthest thing from pretentious and has good wine! Be sure to ask them about their Late Bloomer bottle!

If you are wanting to do wine tasting and want to do something a little different than Napa, I highly recommend Paso Robles! The first time we visited, we did LA and Santa Barbara as well, so it is for sure something you can make a good trip out of. Something we considered doing this trip, but didnā€™t have enough time for was Hearst Castle. Itā€™s about an hour in the opposite direction from home, but we for sure wantto do it another time! Next time we want to visit Law - we heard great things about them this trip!. We also want to eat breakfast at Touch of Paso, which is a cute diner in town. I also realllllly want to stay at Hotel Cheval. Bucket list! Do you have a favorite Paso thing or surrounding area note? Do tell, because we will be back!!
