Last month my friends and I welcomed fall by relaxing at RnR Vacation Rentals. If that sounds familiar, it is because Nick and I welcomed summer there this past June. Similar trip, but the scenery was different thanks to the changing leaves and the fact that we were going more for pleasure rather than business. RNR properties are set up as wonderful work-from-anywhere remote options with longterm rental perks and discounts.

We decided to make it a long weekend, so we booked our stay Thursday - Sunday. The end of September is a lovely time to visit Tahoe because thereās still some heat of summer, but the first signs of fall are appearing. Our friend group chose Lake Tahoe because you get the best of both worlds with water activities, as well as mountain views. We were initially supposed to have a total of 8 people attend, so when we chose The Heavenly Valley Estate, we picked it for the location and the space. We ended up only having 6 people, so the cabin was more than enough space with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths. Coming from a small LA apartment, we very much appreciated the ability to stretch out. We lusted after the size of the kitchen which was perfect for making group dinners. We coveted the laundry room as well. You can expect these kinds of amenities at all RNR Vacation Rentals, which is one of the reasons we keep coming back.
THURSDAY
We all arrived in the evening around 5:00 pm and went to the house to check it out. You can check-in starting at 4:00 pm and RNR gives you a unique code to unlock your door. We were all tired and hungry from the trek, so we popped over to Basecamp Pizza at Heavenly Village. Coolness had begun to set in and the village was vibrating with people, live music, and the aroma of pizza.
FRIDAY
This was our boat day! Initially we planned to do a mid-morning slot, but switched it to a 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm slot and we are so glad we did. We slept in, worked a little, made brunch, then walked from the cabin to the water for a little morning exercise. Once back to the house, we changed into our swim gear, grabbed some snacks, then headed to the marina. We rented a speed boat from Tahoe Sports and it was grand. There was pretty much no one on the water and it was a dream. We boated across the lake and went to Sunnyside Restaurant for a late lunch on the patio. It was yummy and such a vibe. You dock where they assign you, then they boat you up to the pier. Sunnyside doesnāt take lunch reservations, but they do starting at 3:00pm for dinner. They were actually closed during lunch the day we went, so perhaps call ahead; but, it was a great spot and boating there is a much more fun way to arrive than driving. That night we hot tubbed and made tacos, then turned in embarrassingly early.
SATURDAY
Another outdoorsy day! We started off with a hike of Fallen Leaf Lake, then swung back by the house to eat some leftovers for lunch. After that we headed to Clearly Kayaks in Zephyr Cove which is in the Nevada part of Lake Tahoe. There were kayak spots closer, but this was the only one we could find that had clear kayaks. We rented the clear bottomed boats for 2 hours. They have completely clear kayaks, but you have to do a tour. We opted to self guide and had a wonderful time. We docked at the large rock formation to the left of the beach (when youāre on the beach). I canāt remember the name of the rocks, but the Clearly Kayak guides 100% know - just ask them. On the way back to South Lake Tahoe, we did the short, but steep hike of Cave Rock. The views were wonderful and the view of the coastline looks like youāre somewhere other than California. We headed back to our house and got to work on homemade pasta for our last dinner. I canāt say enough how nice it is to come back to a big house and relax in a wide-open kitchen with your friends!! Tahoe is definitely a place to go to enjoy nature and the people you are with and that is what RNR Vacation Rentals provides - a place deep in the nature, full of amenities that make you want to stay there.
SUNDAY
Nick and I had to jet early that morning to get back to the twins, so we didnāt really do much. RNR has a minimal list of tasks for checkout - for example, take the trash out, but you donāt have to strip the beds. I always like to make a pile of the soiled towels in the laundry room, but other than that, you donāt have to clean much. These days AirBnbs have a long list of to-dos and it is nice that these require less work, especially after a relaxing vacation.
Where to Stay:
Where to Eat:
Basecamp Pizza
Sunnyside Restaurant
Go to the grocery store and DIY ;)
What to Do:
Hike Fallen Leaf Lake and Cake Rock (Hope Valley, Markleeville, and Ebbetts Pass, Luther Pass were also recommended)
Kayak at Clearly Kayaks
Rent a Boat from Tahoe Sports
We had a wonderful time! Should we go back to ring in the winter and spring seasons too, so we can experience Tahoe in all of its glory? I think so! Iām not much of a skier, but twist my arm to spend time in this lovely pocket of California. Maybe Nick and I need to take advantage of the 30 or even 90 day rental offering that RNR Vacation Rentals offersā¦ the crisp air and nature is truly out of this world.
