Nick and I have been visiting Paso Robles, a town outside of San Luis Obispo (SLO,) for longer than we have lived in Los Angeles. We now have a new reason to visit the area though - Kindred Oak Farm, a farm-stay experience in SLO county, California.

Residing in West LA, the travel to Paso Robles is usually an easy 3 hour drive with a perfect pit stop in Santa Barbara. Our reason for going? One of our favorite wineries, Epoch Wines, formerly York Mountain Winery, previously Ascension Winery. We attended Epochā€™s fall release party this past November and my husband surprised me with a stay at Kindred Oak Farm. Iā€™m an avid researcher and have visited the area so much, I was astonished he found something that I hadnā€™t heard of first. Donā€™t get me wrong - he is 100% capable of doing such a thing, but a bed and breakfast this cute? 1) I wish I had finding rights and 2) I wish we had more time there! I asked, ā€œare you sure we have to leave?ā€ upon our dismissal.

Purchased in 2019 by Lisa and Robert Peach, they took over the 20 acre spot where Chanticleer Bed and Breakfast once sat and opened ā€œKindred Oak Farmā€ for guests that same June. Since then they have done a lot of work to make it an even better experience for guests. One step into this unique five-star stay and youā€™ll see what I mean. Kindred Oak Farm is a four room bed and breakfast and working organic farm. The interior design is homey, yet elevated, farm-y, yet upscale. You can immediately feel the care they put into making this place their own and in-turn your home away from home.

Well, your home, but coolerā€¦ unless you can feed goats, pick fresh herbs, see highland calves, and wander in some of the most beautiful nature on planet earth where you live. Donā€™t forget the gym and game room either.  We stayed in the Willow Creek room, which is tucked away under the home. It is the perfect close, yet ā€œfurther awayā€ option. It was perfect for our family, but honestly any of their rooms (Adelaida, Oaks, and Templeton Gap) are wonderful too. If you want to truly the make the most of your time there with people you love, they actually offer full-farm buyouts! Eight guests can stay and experience the beauty all to themselves. A full buy out would also be perfect for intimate family or group celebrations as well

The sleeping arrangements were top notch, but the most memorable part to me was the food. Operating as a true bed and breakfast, your stay includes a marvelous meal, much of which is made from produce right on the farm. I am still thinking about the food Chef Dominique Benevidez prepared for us. Not only did she serve broccoli for breakfast (fresh from their farm, mind you) and had me begging for seconds  (brocolini with yogurt to be specific,) but she made me forget homestyle potatoes. From this visit on I only want squash in the morning! I dream of her butternut and persimmon terrine, served with maple sausage. Oh and lest I forget the peanut butter and jelly stuffed french toast!  The house-made herbal tea (fresh from their garden!,), fresh juices, and coffee were also divine, but Iā€™m sure you get the picture by this point. Everything is amazing here! If you are really a foodie, consider booking the chef for a private dinner as an add-on. This is something I want to do next time we are at Kindred Oak! Want to experience the brunch for yourself? Chef Dom hosts a pop-up brunch every 3rd Sunday at the farm and you donā€™t have to be guests of the property to enjoy it! Check out her website for information and tickets on these events.

I know Iā€™m leaving out other key experiences and points (private wine tastings, in-room massages, picnic lunches, private dinners!!,) but that is part of the beauty in staying at Kindred Oak Farm. From the farm-fresh eggs taken from their chicken coop, to their pollinized local bee-hives, you wonā€™t just have a lovely stay, youā€™ll be making core-memories that enlighten all of your senses.

My only complaint? It isnā€™t open during the week; you can book Thursday - Sunday, with a minimum of a 2-night stay. With only 52 weekends a year, you better get to booking!

Something to look forward to? They are currently planning to offer week-day stays for families! Think family-friendly activities and meals, centered around you and your kids. We cannot wait for this experience to go-live!
