This wasn’t a post I had scheduled or anything, but as soon as I received this dress in the mail, I knew I had to write about it. In a silly way, I’m thankful for that, because if you subscribe to my newsletter, then you are aware that I have been struggling to find time to write and shoot content since our big move a couple of weeks ago. I have been trying to write a moving series including tips, tricks, and what went wrong with ours, but it takes so long to write and to be quite frank, I’m still putting things away in our new abode. I have moved away from just writing about just fashion though I still love it, there are just more pressing things to write about these days. In regard to fashion, I love to cover more things like how to wear it more than once, style for every size, and sustainable features. I’ve come a long way since my “here’s a dress and I like it” type of posts, but every now and then I find a piece that makes me want to spotlight it. Plus, it is just in the nick of time, as I really wanted to get a post up today and simple fashion is so easy for me to write about.

In the age of “I need a new dress for every event” I have become one who has learned to lean on her staples. I have a signature black jumpsuit, black pants, little black dress, long black dress, etc hanging in my closet. It feels good to know that I have something ready for most occasions, and takes the anxiety out of getting dressed. Long sleeve dresses are one of my favorite things to don, because they are chic, practical for cooler weather, and unexpected. For example I still wear this Club Monaco dress and always get compliments on it! Long sleeve dresses are great as we enter into cooler seasons, because they fit the time of year and obviously keep you warmer than a sleeveless option would, while still giving you room to breathe. I’ve always said that an easy way to dress for the current season is to wear something that nods toward what it should feel like outside. Want to wear a sweater in the heat of Texas? Reach for some shorts to go with it. Need to go to a formal event in the evening chill of LA? Grab a long sleeved dress! Heck with this one, you could even wear it with tights, if you’re in a colder state. And you KNOW it would be fine in Texas ;)

Ok so I do like to keep my basics around, but I enjoy getting a new dress for Nick’s work Christmas party every year. (Here is one I bought a couple years ago and still wear!) I try to keep it practical though and this dress definitely fits that bill! I know it is tempting to want glitz and sparkle, but if you’re trying to watch your budget (and even if you’re not), buying dresses like this one is a great idea! It is wrap dress, which is naturally pretty flattering. The length is good and though it does V kind of low, it isn’t too revealing. Just don’t hunch over or anything or the wrap will come open, as they do. Hah! The hue is one of my favorite parts too. Dark green is a great neutral, but also feels a little more elevated than a traditional lbd. I think dark green is black’s older, sophisticated sister! Not to mention, it is a great color for the holidays, but not too holiday-esque where you’d only want to wear it in December. You knowwww how I like to style things different ways! I paired the dress this go-around with light brown over the knee boots; however, it would look fantastic with pumps or heeled sandals, in black, nude, or even gold too! To make it more Christmas-y, try pairing it with a red lip, or even a burgundy pout. The neck is pretty open, so a statement necklace or earrings would sway the look however you want it to go too!

This dress is from the Madewell Texture and Thread line. You might remember that back in May I actually shared the sleeveless version of this dress here. It has sold out several times, so I can see why they would bring it back for the holidays. I love the sleeveless and cap sleeve options, but this fabric feels a little nicer in my opinion! Madewell created the Texture and Thread collection with the thought that ever piece of clothing should be as comfortable as a t-shirt, so this line of products are usually more lightweight and cheaper than other Madewell items too. I love how even with those lesser priced elements, it doesn’t take away from the chicness of the look. This specific dress is right under $100 and can be styled a million ways. My kind of outfit! Life is too short to be uncomfortable and not cute;) (As I sit here in leggings and a t-shirt, about to walk out the door to yoga. Hah!)

Anyway, I know that party season is approaching! Just wanted to say don’t feel pressured to buy more and wear less. You might just find you’re happier with a go-to option you have worn before! Have a great week, friend!

P.S. Can you believe I shot this in Los Angeles? It is for sure hard to find places that aren’t beach and palm trees in the city, but I am pleasantly surprised with this location! It is La Cienaga Park in Beverly Hills. We didn’t get to go apple picking last weekend, but I’m hoping to go two weekends from now. I had originally planned to shoot fall content there, but will for shoot some while picking apples AND of course when we are in Carmel this coming weekend!!
