Recently I shared my favorite maternity brands, but I am honestly more excited to share this post. I waited as long as possible to buy maternity clothes. I preferred to wear items I already had or to find items to purchase that would not only accommodate my growing bump, but that I could wear postpartum and beyond.
Keep reading / scrolling for some of my favorite pregnancy-friendly brands as well as actual outfit inspiration for your growing belly.
LuluLemon 6β Align Biker Shorts | Lululemon Align Leggings | Entire outfit linked here
I initially purchased a couple extra pairs of align leggings, but what I lived in most of my pregnancy were my align shorts! They are so soft and comfortable. I preferred to wear them under my bump when it got larger. This was more comfortable, but it also prevented them from stretching out. Since I was pregnant all spring and summer, the shorts just made sense. Plus they are socially acceptable to wear out! I just wore my normal size which is a size 6. I will say that I did buy a couple sports bras during this time and sized up in those, but thatβs another topic for another day!
One of my other favorite βtechnicalβ pieces that I have been wearing non-stop are Outdoor Voices cloudknit tops. I have them in both short sleeve and long sleeve and LOVE them. They are soft and comfy, but also are wicking so that extra pregnancy sweat has somewhere to go. Hah! They are slightly oversized, so my regular size S is fine.
Ellie Nap Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here | Nesli Nap Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here | Nap Dress Review Here
Hill House Home, the creator of the nap dress, has a very pregnancy and nursing friendly collection. They are mostly easy to wear dresses that are so in right now. The Ellie is my favorite (wearing a S), but the Nesli is a second favorite if you want sleeves. (wearing an XS). I bought my first one before I was pregnant and bought another one during the pregnancy. They are so comfy and chic!
Belly Band Pant Extender | Entire Outfit Linked Here
These belly bands allowed me to wear my jeans and shorts a lot longer and more comfortably that I thought I could have. I did have a pair of maternity jeans, but I never bought maternity shorts or light wash / black jeans. Needless to say, they came in very handy! I used the pant extenders only a couple of times, but really relied on the actual belly bands for most of my pregnancy.
Madewell Lucie Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here | Madewell Tie Strap Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here
Madewell has maternity pants, but doesnβt have an actual maternity line. Thatβs okay though, because their dresses accommodate the bump no problem. I adore their dresses and most of them are loose and flowy. I wore the above all throughout my pregnancy and they were comfortable and cuteβ¦ the two things you desperately need while pregnant. Iβm wearing my regular dress size S / 4 in these photos.
Piko Top | Belly Band Pant Extender | Entire Outfit Linked Here
I have had my Piko tops for 6 or 7 years now. I loved them pre-pregnancy and loved them even more during pregnancy. They are loose, flowy, forgiving, and come in tons of colors. I am wearing my regular size S here and there is plenty of room!
Amazon Dress (wearing a size S) | Entire Outfit Linked Here | Knit Midi Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here
Donβt sleep on Amazon fashion! I pick and choose what I promote, but there are some really well-made fashion pieces that are non-maternity, but 100% work for your baby bump. This is especially great if you are more on a budget. Just be mindful that not everything you find there looks like the picture / check the return policy for sure.
Everlane Jumpsuit (wearing a size 4) | Entire Outfit Linked Here
Shop your own closet for items with zippers or buttons. A lot of items can be re-purposed to be worn during pregnancy with the simple act of unzipping or unbuttoning and throwing on a layer underneath. I received SO many compliments on this denim coverall look and it was something I already had, just styled in a different way. This is my biggest tip for buying less maternity options, which in turn saves you money.
Buru Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here | Summersalt Pintuck Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here
Thank goodness that loose dresses are in. I love a good body-con (which can actually be really cute during pregnancy), but you may not feel like wearing it postpartum. I grabbed a S in both of these dresses and plan to wear them a lot after the twins come. They are comfortable and chic, plus can be dressed up or down. Iβm always here for a dress that pairs well with sneakers and sure I will feel that way even moreso after the babies come. When shopping I always say to think of the item in a versatile way and think of all the ways you can style them. Shopping during pregnancy is no different. I shared several ways to style the purple dress here. Similar for the seafoam dress, I paired it here with fuzzy slides, but I also shared it with boots, with booties, with spring sandals, with sneakers, and heeled sandals.
Bodycon Dress | Mesh Overlay Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here
Iβm obsessed with this Oscar de la Renta mesh gown with embroidered flowers that is in his most recent collection. I have yet to see a non-designer version, so have been hunting for one. This look is a completely different vibe, but along the same lines. I grabbed a M in the body-con slip type dress and a S in the mesh overlay dress. Black is so forgiving and the overlay dress is loose, so it is another look that is good for pregnancy and postpartum.
Show Me Your Mumu Johns Button Up | Belly Band Pant Extender | Entire Outfit Linked Here | Tularosa Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here
These are kind of random purchases, so not a really a tip, but I still wanted to include them. I bought the top as a swim coverup, but it can easily be worn out. Iβm wearing a M here because that is all they had left, but I could have easily worn a S. It is oversized and so cozy chic. Regarding the other look, as I mentioned above, flowy dresses are in thankfully! When you buy these, make sure you know if they have lining. This dress is 100% something I would regardless of pregnancy. Iβm wearing a S, but due to the lining, I wish I would have ordered a M. S would fit me normally, but I wasnβt able to wear this later in pregnancy as it was too tight. I am about 23/24 weeks pregnant here.
Everlane Slip Dress | Entire Outfit Linked Here
Slip dresses are my favorite, as they naturally wear loose! I was able to wear mine until about 29 weeks pregnant, then I just kept growing and growing. They are classic pieces of clothing that wear well alone or layered with a sweater, cardigan, or even a blazer. Iβm wearing a size 6 here. This particular dress I sized up in, as the 4 hugged my hips too tight pre-pregnancy. I have a similar one from Madewell and a 4 fits fine. Sizes are funny!
Hunza G One Piece | Entire Outfit Linked Here | Hunza G Swimsuit Review
I bought this swimsuit pre-pregnancy, but it came in clutch. Since I live by the beach, I am in a swimsuit quite frequently. It is a OSFA swimsuit, so it stretched with me as I grew. If youβre skeptical, I wrote a review here. Iβm about 20 weeks in this photo.
To kind of recap everything, here are some of my favorite non-maternity brands and ideas:
Amazon Dresses
Slip Dresses
Loose Fit / Boho Dresses
I hope this post has inspired you and helped you dress your belly. Between appointments and products to purchase, having a baby is expensive. Dressing your bump doesnβt have to be! If you do want to know my maternity picks, I shared my favorite maternity clothes and brands here. XOXO
