Okay, FINALLY sharing my skinβs favorite product right now - Primally Pure Soothing + CBD Serum. Last summer, PP launchd skin specific serums that help aid you and the current state of your skin. Until early this year, their serums included the following:
Plumping Serum: Collagen boosting and full of antioxidants - great for reducing fine lines and wrinkles
Clarifying Serum: Anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial - great for acne prone skin
Soothing Serum: Redness reducing and restorative boosting - great for calming red and angry skin (no CBD in this formulation)
Iβve tried all of the above and they are all great in their own way; however, my favorite was the plumping serum. (try them for yourself for 10% off w/ discount code ELLEMULENOS) KEY WORD βWASβ. Donβt hear me incorrectly - all of the serums are fantastic; however, Iβve seen the most change in my skin with the new Soothing + CBD serum.
Keep reading for more on this serum and why you should consider incorporating CBD into your skincare routine!

Before I dive any deeper, I want to address CBD. If youβre a somewhat newbie like me, it can be confusing to understand what the heck it even is! Recently I wrote a blog post all about CBD and explaining everything. Primally Pure also has some really great articles addressing why CBD isnβt just a trend and reasons why you should incorporate CBD into your skincare regimen.
BENEFITS OF CBD FOR SKIN
CBD is all the rage right now, but especially in skincare. Itβs been deemed somewhat of a miracle additive, as it is gentle enough for inflammatory skin conditions (like eczema, acne, psoriasis) yet effective enough to see major results. Here are some great benefits CBD is known to perform:
Balancing oil production
Coating skin in the perfect ration of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids which promotes a healthy appearance and deters acne from occurring
Delivering powerful antioxidants straight to the skin source which protect the skin from future damage, while aiding in current repair
Encouraging collagen production thanks to vitamin a
Stimulating cell turn over and repair thanks to vitamin d
Preventing the spread of acne thanks to natural anti-bacterial properties
Reducing redness due to anti-inflammatory agents
Reversing free radical damage and signs of aging thanks to vitamin e

THOUGHTS ON THE PRIMALLY PURE SOOTHING + CBD SERUM
SCENT: This is the most asked question! Does it smell like weed??
First of all, PP uses hemp-derived CBD, though you can also extract CBD from Marijuana. Both CBDs are of the Sativa varietal. All that to say, NO I donβt think it smells like weed, or skunk, or anything like that. Now, it does have a woodsy scent, but it isnβt crazy. If I had to assign a smell to it, I would say the scent is similar to celery root.
Note that I reallllly canβt even tell a difference in the scent between the regular Soothing Serum and the Soothing + CBD Serum. If youβre curious, the Clarifying Serum: smells like sweet oranges and the Plumping Serum favors that of geranium and jasmine. These two are definitely more spa like and agreeable, though I donβt dislike the soothing serumβs aroma.
I think the people who have an issue with the scent arenβt used to more natural products and maybe havenβt smelled weed before. Natural products have a more natural scent. It isnβt going to smell like your artificially fragranced products.
PRICE: This product falls in line with the rest of the serums, though slightly more expensive.
.05 oz is $54
1 oz is $102
While the Plumping and Clarifying ring in at $52 for .05 oz and $98 for 1 oz, the regular Soothing is only $42 for .05 oz and $78 for 1 oz. In my opinion, the pricing makes total sense because their CBD is well- sourced and of the highest quality. I believe the up-charge reflects the added benefits you receive from the CBD!
HOW IT DIFFERS FROM THE NON-CBD SOOTHING SERUM: Pretty much the only differences are the actual CBD and the price! The formulations are 100% the same, except the added CBD. The CBD is full-spectrum, which has what is called an entourage effect. This helps all of the ingredients work together better and causes you to receive the most benefits! CBD is also a known natural acne fighter. It inhibits the buildup of dead skin cells and decreases inflammation!
I noted it above, but I canβt really tell a difference between the two products scent-wise. They are pretty much identical.
Sooo though it is only one (or two) small differences in the products, the addition of CBD makes a big difference, especially for me and my skin.
HOW I USE IT: The short answer is that I use the CBD serum every other evening, applied with my Gua Sha Stone. I apply 2-3 drops on my fingers, then press into my forehead, T-zone, and sides of my face. I then apply 3-4 drops on my fingers and do the same to the bottom half of my face and neck.
I prefer to use it at night, because I donβt care for it to sit under makeup; however, if you donβt wear makeup (especially during these times), during the day is fine!
I like to apply it at least an hour before I go to sleep, so the product can really seep in and not just roll around in my sheets. Iβve never had an issue with it getting all over my pillow or anything like that, but I just wanted to call that out.
Another reason I like to put it on in the evening, is because the gua sha stone makes my face kind of red. Buuut again, if you arenβt going outside, especially during quarantine, it doesnβt really matter.
Iβve tried using it every day and felt like my skin reacts best with it every other evening. Trail and error! Do what works best for you. On my off evenings, Iβll just spot treat troublesome areas with Primally Pure Palmarosa and Mint Beauty Cream. Just like the CBD oil, a little goes a LONG way.
RESULTS IβVE NOTICED: I have 2 things Iβve noticed since using the CBD serum for almost 3 months, but they are pretty big deals for me an my skin.
Reduction in Redness. My skin has been angry for the past 6+ months. I went into detail about my adult acne journey here, but basically my face has been inflamed and broken out for a while. Though my breakouts had begun to heel, I was didnβt see calming results until I tried this serum. My skin isnβt perfect, but it has chilled out thanks to this serum and I truly think it is because of the CBD.
Reduction in Lifespan of Pimples. I was getting DEEP clogged pores and hormonal bumps that would last for weeks upon end. Now I typically notice the spot about a week before it rises, due to sensitivity. The red and raised bump time period has gone from 2-3 weeks, to really only 1 week. This gets me to the healing process much faster and I think it is due to the CBD. Sure I might have a slightly red spot (it shows up so much on my fair skin!) for a week or so after; however, thereβs no more pain and I know my body is working on repairing it.
Hereβs an example of how quickly it helped a breakout on my chin. Look how quickly it faded and healed!! Note the last photo as taken on April 22.
Overall, Iβm SO IN LOVE with this CBD serum and am so thankful that a company like Primally Pure exists. Natural remedies for acne and skincare DO exist and they actually work.
I donβt have a code yet for the CBD serum, but if you want to try any of Primally Pureβs other products, you can do so for 10% off with discount code ELLEMULENOS. If you want to know about my whole skincare routine, I gave my most recent update on my Spring Skincare Regimen post.
