My dad was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. A good chunk of his family still resides there, so Iāve been making the 5 hour road trip (or less ;) ) for my whole life! Now Iām very familiar with the area, but Iāve never really been a tourist in the cityā¦unless climbing Pinnacle Mountain counts!
Nick and I switch off holidays with our families every other year. This year we were in California for Thanksgiving, so for Christmas we are here in Dallas with my family. Usually the weekend before Christmas we head to Arkansas to celebrate and see my dadās extended family. Usually we just stay with family, but this year Nick and I stayed at the historic Capital Hotel. Itās always a good hotel to book, but to stay there during the holiday season, with all of the Christmas decorations? It is simply magical.
We werenāt able to attend as we arrived later, but last Friday they had their super popular Storytime with Santa event! Santa sends each child a letter to let them know he is expecting them. The evening of the event, the kids show up in their pajamas and are given hotel robes and pillows to use! Santa reads āTwas the Night Before Christmas and then goes over his list twice, which includes each of the children on it! The evening ends with a snow machine and all! If youāre local or are planning a trip to LR, check out their event schedule, because they do a ton of holiday themed get-togethers.
Debuting in 1876, the Capital Hotel is anything but old and drafty as the founding year would suggest. The most recent full restoration was completed in 2007. Everything is up to snuff while keeping that good, old Southern feel!
I always love it when a hotel has a restaurant! We were in luck with the Capital, because they have One Eleven at the Capital, headed by Chef Joƫl Antunes. We ate breakfast there each day and it was delicious! They also have the Capital Bar and Grill which is run by Chef Marc Guizol. This was hopping on Saturday night with lots of Christmas events, engagements and last minute tree photo opps!
If youāve never been to Little Rock, itās a great go to stay or even just stay a night or two as youāre passing through on your way elsewhere. I highly suggest making the Capital Hotel a visit at the top of your list, even if youāre just going to have a drink in their bar. I adore their love of Southern hospitality and their history makes it that much sweeter!
