A couple of weeks ago, Nick and I took a trip to Northwest Arkansas. I wanted to take him for his birthday, because he loves sweater weather and Arkansas actually gets a fall, and his favorite coffee roaster is there, but that's a story for another time. When I decided on the trip location, I immediately started researching where to stay. Fayetteville is the main city, as that is the hometown of the Arkansas Razorbacks, but there are other surrounding cities like Springdale and Rogers, and Bentonville (the home of Wal-mart).
Anyway, I eventually landed on the Inn at the Mill and I'm so glad I did! It is the cutest hotel and is a great place to stay when you're in NWA. Here's why:
-location. It's less than 15 minutes from the University of Arkansas campus and less than 30 minutes from other attractions like Crystal Bridges.
-history. The inn was actually a working mill in the 1800s, formerly known as Johnson Mill. It was partially destroyed in the Battle of Pea Ridge i n 1862, but was reconstructed several years later. In the early 90's, the Inn at the Mill opened and the rest is history. Literally;) There are actually 2 suites that are made with the old beams of the mill! In addition to those fun rooms, there's also some Frank Lloyd Right work that is amazing! (I pictured some of the wooden room above).
-amenities. The average room size is awesome. Nick and I both had room to open both of our suitcases and then more room! There's nothing worse than stepping all over your stuff. If you want to upgrade, there are some pretty amazing suites too. They also have a small continental breakfast each morning that was definitely a plus. No one wants to be hangry on vacation!
-visual. I mean could it get any prettier? Arkansas is beautiful in general, but the Inn at the Mill complements it perfectly! I love the theme of the whole property.
-staff. Their staff is as sweet and helpful as can be. Doesn't get any better than that!
Overall the Inn at the Mill is a great place for someone to stay for a warm bed, but is so much more than that. It has something for the outdoorsman, historian, and the weary traveler. I can't wait to go back, because I noticed it looks like they are building a restaurant! Happy trials, to you!
