I used to be realllly good about finding new brands / items that weren’t widely discussed in my circle of friends or my Instagram feed. I haven’t been as successful in the past couple of years, but I’m slowly regaining that habit and loving it. That’s how I stumbled on Cariuma!
Before I get into Cariuma, I just want to say that even though I studied apparel merchandising, I am sometimes a late adopter to trends. Example? The bandana scarf. I think I was a year or two late #latebloomer, but I love them now and consider them a classic staple in my wardrobe. What am I catching up to now? The white sneaker trend! I think most trends I am late on have to do something with being forced to wear them at some point… ie red lipstick. I had to wear it every Friday night in high school for football games, so it wasn’t “fun'“ for me to pair it with outfits. White sneakers were kind of like that for me too. In JV drill team that’s what you had to wear… ugly, white tennis shoes. Boots were reserved for Varsity only. Catch my drift?
Welllll I’m changing my tune now and I’m over the moon with the Cariuma Low Leather White Sneakers that they sent me. Besides loving the sleek and modern design, I found the brand to be very interesting! The sneakers are designed in Brazil, by former shoe execs who wanted to make a better life (bye toxic culture) and a better product. Their sneakers are handmade in small batches out of materials like fair trade cotton, natural rubber and premium suede + leather. The best part? Their insoles are made of vegetable tanned leather and memory foam. #SOcomfy
I picked one of their more classic styles, but they have tons of options - men’s styles too! I have worn these to work several times (yes they are nice enough to wear to work) and received TONS of compliments. It’s hard to find a good shoe that is reasonably priced and well made. Cariuma is that brand!! I’m so happy to have found them and can’t wait to get a second pair. When you’re picking a shoe, keep in mind the sizing. I got an 8.5 - my normal size and the shoes wore a little wide. I tightened up the laces and now they fit like a charm! To learn more about Cariuma, click here!
P.S. I’m obsessed with the shorts I’m wearing here. I did a whole blog post on them last year here.
