Iām really writing this for myselfā¦to look back and remember; however, I thought it would be fun to share how my life has progressed! This is the decade that LMents of Style was born in, so thereās some things you may not know! I encourage you to do a similar exercise and see where you grew and how far you have come. The first part of this post is my personal decade, but I wanted to share some of my favorites and most influential music, tv shows, movies and more. Enjoy!
P.S. Want to know more about 2019? I wrote a year review for it here!
2010
It was the second / third semester (end of my freshman year, beginning of my sophomore year) at Baylor University. I was also put on birth control, for extremely bad period pain.
It was kind of hard for my find pictures for this year! I didnāt really have pictures alone and for some reason I didnāt organize them well. This was where I lived my sophomore year of college. I had just turned 19 in the photo.
2011
This year was kind of weird. I lost a best friend, but gained a bunch of friends through joining Delta Delta Delta. It was also the year I shifted from making football gameday / t-shirt dresses, to making bow ties and neck ties. I also started my first blog Epicuriously Living! And yes, it is still living on the internet ;) I got the opportunity to study abroad in New York City and in Montreal. This is also the year I remember hearing about Pinterest for the first time - from my friend Kami, while in class one day! Anddd the year I got an iPhone! This was also the year my paternal grandfather, my last blood related grandparent, passed away.
This is my college best friend and my roommate for my last 2 years at Baylor. she was also in Tri Delta with me. I had just turned 20 in this picture.
2012
The summer of 2012 was probably one of my top 3 least favorite times ever. Not related to my previous statement, but I interned for J.C. Penney this summer and graduated a semester early from college. It was this fall I heard about Instagram from one of my sorority sisters, while in the art building at Baylor. I still remember how she shared this ācool photo editing appā with me, while taking a picture of a birthday cake. At the time, it was cooler to screenshot the photo and post the edit to Facebook, but we all know how that turned out. I also got a snapchat this year, in my last semester of college. I got really into running in college, but this year I ran my first race! A 5k at the Bearathon.
This was in December after my graduation ceremony. I was 21.
2013
I began the year with my first of many friends weddings, and then started my first corporate job out of college! I also started making a ton of bow ties and neckties for weddings. It was fun, but it took up a lot of my time. Late this year, is actually when I met Nick ;)
Hereās a picture of me and my sister, when she was back home from college. I was living at home and working at the time. I was 22.
2014
I officially started dating Nick this year AND landed a job with the Dallas Cowboys. I moved out of my parents house and lived alone for my first time ever. Nick helped me make a website to sell my bow ties, and I decided to start blogging again and rebrand to match my bow tie line, which was called Southern Elle. I named my blog Southern Elle Style, as it was originally started, to help me style and share my bow tie business. Additionally, my friends called me Elle or ElleSpann. Elle is literally just āLā from Lauren and Spann was my maiden name.
This was mine and Nickās first picture together, at an Elton John concert! I was 23.
2015
Mainly work and travel this year! Nick and I got engaged mid-December. I removed my bow ties from my blog and put them on Etsy, so i could focus more on the blog.
This is when Nick proposed! I was 24.
2016
I got my first pet on my own - a kitten! Nick and I got married. More work and travel, andddd a few lost friendships again. I stopped doing bow ties entirely, because it took took much time and I didnāt charge enough.
This pic was at our wedding ceremony. I was 25.
2017
We opened a business, which was a crazy thing to do, especially just getting married. Cat ate lily pollen and had to be hospitalized. She was never the same after that. We got another cat - Elliot! From Dallas Pets Alive. I re-branded my blog to be LMents Of Style and include more travel and lifestyle content. I was also first introduced to non-toxic beauty products this year!
Hereās Elliot - our second cat. I was 26 here. (was was probably my least favorite age)
2018
This was probably my least favorite year in the decade. We left the business started in 2017 and entered into a legal battle. There were also friendships lost this year. It feels weird to mention this each time it happens, but they stand out to me. I fully embraced the non-toxic lifestyle this year and converted most things to cleaner products. We got a dog this year, so that was probably the highlight! I also started getting back into yoga, which I LOVE.
This is when we got Dino! I was about to turn 27.
2019
What a year! Iām surprised this wasnāt my least favorite year, but yeahā¦ I lost my job, which is one of the most humiliating experiences I have been through. I am currently suffering from the worst breakout I have ever had and have been truly humbled by it. Not just because of how it looks, but because of the pain. I stopped taking birth control this year, which was one of the last big steps for me to truly live a non-toxic lifestyle. I also changed my instagram handle to @ElleMulenos from @ElleSpann, which was something I continually toyed with, but was nervous to do. The biggest thing that happened is that we moved to Los Angeles. Iām excited to ring in the new year in the City of Angels!!
This was from my shoot, announcing that we were moving. I am 28.
