Yoga is pretty much the only thing that gets me out of the house these days. Well, not including Dino and having to take him out ;) Letā€™s just say that Corepower Yoga is the main thing that gets me off of my street! I found out I was an ambassador the afternoon of the same day I was let go of my last job. It seriously was and is still a ray of light for me. So why yoga?

People often think that you have to be flexible to be good at yoga. I am naturally pretty flexible and let me tell youā€¦ it has way more to do with core than it does with flexibility. If you strengthen your core, then theoretically harder poses will be more about muscle memory for you than anything else. Buuut yoga isnā€™t about nailing your peak posture either. Yoga is about breathing and connecting breath to movement.

Here are some of my favorite benefits from practicing yoga:

  • Detox - So yes, it clears the mind, but it also drains your lymphatic system, which removes waste and toxins from the body!

  • Relax - I always say that the world would be a better place if more people did yoga. Nick says Iā€™m nicer when Iā€™ve done it too ;) It zens you out by dropping your blood pressure and cortisol levels.

  • Manage Pain - Yoga is low-impact, so it is a great option for those with injuries. I first looked to yoga after I got runnerā€™s knee while training for a half marathon. To this day it helps with my hips and other joint issues.

  • Overall Health - Stretching and moving your body literally makes it happy. It can lower depression and increase immunity!

You might be likeā€¦okay. How do these benefits differ from working out in general? There is something special about connecting your breath to movement, along with meditation. I typically do yoga most days and go fro a quick run 1-2 times a week. While I love running, it 100% does not make me feel the same that running does. It uses body weight and truly works muscles you otherwise would not use.

CorePower Yoga is hot yoga. So, how does it compare to non-heated practicing? Either way, yoga is super beneficial, but hot yoga is a tad different! It can give you a deeper stretch, as heat loosens your muscles. There are also scientific studies that say heat like saunas and such can increase happiness. It can also literally melt away stress!

Do you like yoga? Whatā€™s your favorite? Heated or regular? I will say it is easier to hold poses in non-heated classes, but there is nothing like the feeling after a heated CorePower Yoga class. It is the perfect combination of euphoria and accomplishment!

P.S. If youā€™re in Dallas, CorePower Yoga West Village opens TODAY. They are having tons of free classes, so check them out. Also, thereā€™s a new one opening in LA soon, in Culver City. Itā€™s a great time to sign up and get that new member discount!!
